Day 1: Arrive Colombo
On your arrival at the Bandaranaika International Airport, you will be met by your representative and driven to Habarana which is one of Sri Lanka’s cultural hotspots. The drive will take you through small villages interspersed with paddy fields, coconut plantations and forests. Check into your hotel, relax and acclimatise to the tropics. Dinner and overnight in Habarana.
Day 2: Sigiriya and Ritigala
After an early breakfast you will visit Sigiriya, one of the seven World Heritage sites of the island. It is an ancient rock fortress and castle ruins, which was once the home to King Kasyapa. In the afternoon you continue your journey to Ritigala which is steeped in myth and superstition. Lush vegetation make up the backdrop of the ruins of an ancient stone monastery. Dinner and overnight at Habarana.
Day 3: Polonnaruwa
Today you will spend the day exploring the medieval city of Polonnaruwa which a well preserved city with beautiful statues, parks and ancient buildings. It is also renowned for its fascinating man made irrigation system. Here you will visit The Royal Palace, The Quadrangle and Gal Vihara with its beautiful Budda images. Dinner and overnight at Habarana.
Day 4: Rangiriya Cave Temples and Kandy
After breakfast you will visit the Rangiriya Cave Temples in Dambulla on the way to Kandy. It is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. In the evening you will take a city tour of Kandy, experience a Cultural show and then visit the Temple of the Tooth which is an important shrine for Buddhists. Dinner & overnight in Kandy.
Day 5: Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast you will travel to Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. It nutures orphaned calves, and treats some 60 injured elephants. Here you can see how this National Treasure operates and watch the elephants bathing and playing in the river.You will then move onto Nuwara Eliya which is set in the hills surrounded by tea plantations and waterfalls. There is a tour of Nuwara Eliya followed by Dinner & overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 6: Tea Plantation and return to Colombo
After breakfast there’s time for a visit to a tea plantation and tea factory in the hills. You will be told all about the process of manufacturing tea and also see how tea is graded. You will then start your journey back to Colombo. Dinner & overnight in Colombo.
Day 7: Colombo
After breakfast you have a city tour of Colombo. It’s a fast changing capital city which still retains its culture and history. The Pettah bazaar is good for local crafts and Odel is more upmarket for clothes and gifts to take home, there are temples to visit. You will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
